Luminous Pillow for America Scores

Last week I had the privelage of participating in Inspired Art, an evening to benefit America Scores LA. America Scores LA empowers students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression and service learning. The inspired art Project is an interplay between voices of Scores youth and the vision of local participating artist. The children, grades 3 - 6, wrote poems which in turn the artists used to create a piece of art inspired by the poem. The art ranged from drawings to photography, paint mediums and sculpture. I chose to make a pillow from a remnant of a fabulous print from Schaumacher.

Kind of amazing style on AT

There's never a shortage of cool, real-life spaces on Apartment Therapy but this home really caught my eye. A well-edited home, the negative space and overall white color palette allows an eclectic modge podge of furnishings to pop. I love how there's no clutter anywhere--especially the kid's room. Located in Dallas, TX where it's all about going big, these homeowners seem to right in tune with the less is more philosophy. Read more about it here.

My New Sofa!

I am the Queen when it comes to finding vintage furntiure--roadside, at flea markets or thrift shops. As long as you have the eye you can find amazing pieces of quality-made furniture which retain thier value and character over time much, much longer than many new pieces. A Bergere sofa (I have the chair) has been on my must have list for the longest time and this was just too close--if not even cooler--to pass up. I won't tell you what I paid but I will say under $300!!!

Ideas for how to refurbish!

You can never go wrong with all white upholstery--Like Rashida Jones did on her own Bergere sofa in her New York apartment.

However....since I already have an all-white Bergere chair AND I don't want to be that really paranoid and annoying host, I'm thinking to modernize it with a fun pop of color! A dusty pink to match the light wood frame. This hot pink sofa, done by Suzanne Sharp of the Rug Company has been on my inspiration board for the past year. Time to see it come to fruition.

A stunning option for wall art

I've been on the hunt for some unique options for large scale wall art above my sofa. The Animal Print Shop offers a surprisingly stunning collection of museum quality prints of various animals. Photographed in studio, the result if fresh and modern and when scaled properly is the piece that just might take your decor to a designer level. Known for her commercial work with animals, photographer Sharon Montrose offers prints starting from $25 (for 8.5 x 11) up to around $5000 (for 40x52).

Win $10k from CB2 and The Selby!

Photographer Todd Selby's at it again. This time he's teamed up with CB2 for an exciting new challenge--submit three shots of your home for a chance to win a 10k shopping spree at CB2. Now if you know the Selby, he takes provocative and glam rock style pictures of quirky interiors--from his creative collegues all the way to icons like Phillipe Stark and Christian Louboutin. The winner's home is sure to be one with a strong sense of style, humor and wit --this contest is probably not for a conservative decorator.

While you're at it, go ahead and vote for "Derrick's Dope Boudoir"...we had a blast styling the room--Todd Selby style. Vote Here!
